Is Beauty only Skin Deep?

Why is it that we focus so much on the external view of ourselves and those around us? Is it that our attraction to what we see prompts us to continuously be examining those around us, or is it some sort of innate law of attraction?

Yesterday the USA today reported about how Cameron Diaz, at age 39 showed up to the Paris Couture Week looking young and vibrant. As the articles goes on, instead of focusing on her beauty, it starts to speculate that it must be some sort of non-surgical technique OR that she has undergone plastic surgery.

What I saw from the picture was a woman, close to my age that was wearing a stylish lace dress (yes, ladies in case you haven't heard lace and sheer items are back this spring), which emphasized her own beauty instead of the clothes she was wearing.

As I'm reading more and more on Erotic Capital, I'm watching how the media portray's even the most popular of women different than how men are viewed. There is so much more weight put on women and fashion - because more of us are paying attention. Not only are men interested in looking at pictures of beauty, but so are women.

Is this beauty causing us to only be skin deep?

In our relationships, if we don't keep ourselves up, we end up loosing self confidence and we lose sight of an important element of attracting one another. In order to feel beautiful - you do have to work at it all the time.

I've come to realize that while beauty may only be skin deep - if you don't have that package on the outside well taken care of, you might not make it as far as those who do.
